Borthwick Wairarapa Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 23-Feb-2011
Pale straw-yellow with some green hues to the colour, this has an elegantly proportioned nose of concentrated spiced pears, herbs, and flinty minerally lees notes. Dryish to taste, the soft, subtle stonefruit flavours are still tightly bound, but richness and sweetness is already apparent. Some alcohol heat is noticeable, but the wine is well-framed with soft, almost soapy, Gewurztraminer-like textures which add unctuousness. The wine has good acidity, which should see it drink well with all Asian cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. Fruit from 5-8 y.o. vines, 40% fermented and matured in seasoned oak for 5 months. The wine is 13.8% alc. and has 2.1 g/L rs. 17.0-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $24.99
