Bollinger ‘R.D.’ Champagne 1997

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 04-Dec-2012
75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, disgorged 2 July 2010. Full, light golden-hued straw-yellow colour, pale on rim, with persistent bubbles. The bouquet is broad and full, but with good depth and intensity, quite sizeable in volume. Complex aromas of ripe, savoury yellow stonefruits show with aldehydes, nuts and toast, but show remarkable herb-like freshness and youthful vitality of recent disgorgement, the autolysis a little disjointed and standing apart. Dry and fullish-bodied, the palate shows a complex amalgam of savoury stonefruits, very Pinot Noir in expression, alongside aldehydes, nuts and toast, with yeast extract. The acidity is slippery and the mouthfeel is reltively fresh and racy. This has excellent weight and presence, and the features are the soft, growing richness and complex layers that are just beginning to unfold. This is a very individual Champagne showing real Pinot Noir strength and a complexity of style. It should develop and come together over the next 5-7 years. 18.5/20 Nov 2012 RRP $397.00
