Bollinger Champagne ‘Grande Annee’ Rosé 2002

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 28-Aug-2011
62% PN and 38% Ch, with 5-6% red wine from the Cote Aux Enfants site, the wine having 73% grand cru composition, and a dosage of 6-8 g/L. Deepish strawberry-salmon coloured with hints of gold, this has fine and persistent bubbles. The nose is elegant but with a deep and intense core of fresh, lively red florals, soft red fruits and subtle bready autolysis, all with nuance and interest. Dry on palate, this has a softness to the presence and volume of flavour. Delicate sweetness and richness of the fruit is the feature, and the wine is layered with very fine nutty, stonefruit and oxidative complexities. The textures are very fine and the structure is seemingly understated, but this has excellent line. The acidity provides a steely, crisp freshness and carries through to the long and subtly nuanced finish. This has the potential to show more over the next 7-9 years.  Aug 2011
