Bodegas Piqueras ‘ El Picoteo’ Almansa 2016

Blended Red from Spain
Review Date : 14-Nov-2018
Dark, deep, black-hued red colour with garnet hues on the edge. The nose is elegantly proportioned with a taut core and good intensity of black berried fruits with light hints of raspberries and some piquant dark herbs that unfold in the glass. This is clean and fruit-driven, and straightforward in expression. Medium-bodied, the palate has a firm core with tightly bound flavours of ripe black berried fruits with sweet raspberry notes, interwoven with dark herbs. The fruit forms a tight line and core providing drive with fine, near-powdery tannin structure. The acidity is balanced, and the firm line leads to an elegantly concentrated, moderately long finish of black fruits. This is a firm and taut finely concentrated, black-fruited Almansa red blend with raspberry notes and dark herbs showing good linearity. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison over the next 3+ years. A blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Syrah from Almansa, Spain, vines 30-35 y.o., indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 3-4 months in American and French oak 300 L barrels. Agricultura UE organic wine. 16.5+/20 Nov 2018 RRP $21.99
