Bodegas Perica ‘Olagosa’ Rioja Crianza 2011

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 20-Oct-2015
90% Tempranillo and 5% each Garnacha and Mazuelo, from the Rioja Alta, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in American oak barriques. Full, dark ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on the edge. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned and refined in expression with penetrating and concentrated aromas of dark red berry fruits with sweet and savoury plum notes harmoniously melded with liquorice, Middle Eastern spices, and vanilla and cedary oak elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a fine and tightly bound core of sweet and savoury dark red berry and plum fruit lifted by spicy, vanilla-infused oak flavours. The mouthfeel is enlivened by piquant acidity and the wine follows a finely extracted heart and line. This has energy and linearity, and the wine carries to an elegant, firm, lingering, dry finish with spice and oak vanilla nuances. This is an elegantly concentrated, fine and firm Rioja with oak-spiced berry and plum flavours. Match with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 4-5 years. 17.0+/20 Oct 2015 RRP $24.00
