Bodegas Navalon ‘Anciano’ Valdepenas Crianza Tempranillo ‘Aged 3 Years’ 2009

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 12-Jul-2013
Full, dark and deep purple-hued ruby-red colour. This has an elegant nose of primary dark raspberry berry fruits, lifted with floral notes, harmoniously interwoven with savoury game and cedary oak aromas that unfold gently. Medium-full bodied, tightly bound and concentrated flavours of dark red berry fruits and spicy, cedary oak form a strong core. The fruit is supported by firm tannins that grow in texture and drive. The linearity is enhanced by fresh acid, and the palate leads to a dry, textural finish with some grip. This is a concentrated and grainy-textured Tempranillo with ripe fruitiness and spicy oak. Serve with slow-cooked lamb or game meat over the next 4-5+ years. Hand-picked Tempranillo fruit from 30 y.o. vines in Valdepenas, fermented in tank to 13.0% alc., the wine aged at least 6 months in French and American oak barriques and 3 years before release. 17.0+/20 Jul 2013 RRP $18.99
