Bodegas Muriel ‘Rey del Mundo’ Rioja Tempranillo 2012

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 13-Mar-2015
Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with garnet hues. This has an elegant and tightly packed bouquet of dark red and black berried fruits entwined with savoury dried herb, earth and game notes, along with mineral and nutty oak elements. The aromatics build in intensity. Medium-full bodied the palate features mouth-coating textures with considerable fine, grainy tannin extraction providing plenty of powdery grip. The flavours of savoury red and black berry fruits are framed by the structure and carried with good drive and line, unveiling dried herb, earth and nuances of leather. This has good density and the wine carries to a sustained, vinous finish. This is a dry-textured and well-structured Rioja with restrained, savoury red fruit and earthy flavours. Match with slow-cooked game meat, casseroles and hard cheeses over the next 4+ years. 100% Tempranillo from 30 y.o. vines from Rioja Alavesa fermented to 13.5% alc., most of the wine aged 6 months in seasoned French and American oak, including 35% aged 9 months in 1 y.o. French barriques. Winemaker: Javier Murua. 17.0-/20 Mar 2015 RRP $26.00
