50% each of Tempranillo and Syrah, from Fontanars dels Alforins and Enguera, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4 months in European oak barrels. Very full, near impenetrable black-hued garnet red colour. This has a full, solid nose of bright, ripe black and red fruits revealing layers of earth, game meat, ink and pepper. Medium-full bodied, this is a well-extracted wine with mouthfilling textures of soft tannins that are the feature. Soft flavours of red and dark berry fruits with game, pepper and cedar show with restraint. The breadth of the palate is enhanced by low acidity, and the wine finishes with warmth and generous, but fine, grainy tannins. This is a fulsome wine with good fruit character encased by soft tannins. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked meats over the next 4-5 years. 17.0+/20 Apr 2012 RRP $19.99
