Bodegas Castano ‘Molino Loco’ Yecla Monastrell 2015

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 08-Aug-2016
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, lighter on the rim. This has an elegant nose with a concentrated core of ripe black-berried with some fragrant black floral and violet notes, along with subtle herbal nuances. The aromatics are tightly bound and penetrating in intensity. Medium-full bodied, the fruit flavours of blackberries are melded with dark herbs and violet florals, and show with brightness and succulence. Fine in proportion, the palate has some underlying alcoholic drive, with fresh acidity adding to the energy. Grainy tannins support the fruit with linearity and the wine carries to a dry, light, black-fruited finish. This is a bright, juicy and sweet-fruited Monastrell with herbal and floral lift, and a grainy-textured, driven palate. Match with barbecued and roasted red meats over the next 3-4 years. Named after a windmill near the vineyards that turns only on calm days. 85% Monastrell and 15% Syrah from 50 y.o. vines fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged briefly in oak. 16.5+/20 Aug 2016 RRP $24.99
