Bodegas Castano ‘Molino Loco’ Yecla Monastrell 2014

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 31-Aug-2015
Named after a ‘crazy windmill’ at the edge of the estate vineyards. Hand-picked 100% Monastrell fruit from 50 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged briefly in oak. Dark, deep, black-hued red with youthful purple tints on the edge. The nose is fresh and primary with sweetly ripe, up-front aromas of dark raspberries and blackberries along with hints of jam, earth and liquorice. Medium-bodied, the palate features plush, sweet and ripe fruit flavours of juicy blackberries and raspberries. The fruit is lifted by light jam and confectionary whole berry elements, and framed by light, grainy tannins. This mouthfeel has grip and integrated acidity, but the fruit sweetness emerges to lead to an easy, fruity, dry-textured finish. This is a plush, up-front, juicy Monastrell with a light, grainy tannin grip. Match with pasta, paella, pizza and barbecued food over the next 3 years. 16.0+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $19.99
