Bodegas Castano ‘Dominio Espinal’ Yecla Tinto Monastrell/Syrah 2014

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 31-Aug-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with purple-black hues, lighter on rim. This has a fresh, up-front, aromatic and lifted nose with ripe fruit aromas of dark raspberries and blackberries, entwined with subtle black pepper and mineral nuances. Some blackberry jam hints emerge in the glass. Medium to medium-full bodied, a sweet, juicy core of ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit unfolds notes of black pepper and minerals, along with a lifted blackberry jam note. Light, fine-grained, supple tannins lend a gentle firmness to the palate heart and line, and the acidity is integrated, lending some energy to a moderately long, firm finish of black fruits. This is a sweetly ripe Yecla red with a good core of blackberry and raspberry fruit supported by supple tannins. Match with barbecued fare and Mediterranean cuisine over the next 3+ years. 85% Monastrell and 15% Syrah from vines over 30 y.o., fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 1 month in barrel. 16.5+/20 Sep 2015 RRP $19.99
