Bodegas Castano ‘Dominio Espinal Seleccion’ Yecla 2013

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 31-Aug-2015
Full, very dark, black-hued red colour with ruby hues on the edge. The nose is well-concentrated with moderately intense and firmly packed aromas of black berried fruits subtly melded with blackcurrant and herb elements along with spices and black pepper. An array of aromatic elements emerge, showing florals and confectionary, with complexing tar and minerals. Medium-full bodied, this has a soft, dense, sweet core of ripe blackberry fruit, harmoniously entwined with raspberries, blackcurrants, herbs and pepper. The fruit is underlined by fine-grained, powdery tannin structure, and acidity lending gentle energy and drive. The wine carries with good linearity to a moderately long finish of sweet fruit with fine-grip. This is a soft, well-packed, fine-textured Yecla with black fruits and subtle herb and spice interest. Match with lamb, beef and casseroles over the next 4+ years. 80% Monastrell and 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, from 20-30 y.o. vines, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 4 months in wood. 17.5/20 Sep 2015 RRP $19.99
