Bodegas Castano ‘Coleccion’ Yecla 2009

Mourvedre from Spain
Review Date : 14-Jun-2012
80% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, from 40 y.o.vines, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in oak. Dark ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues still. The nose is bright fruited, deeply concentrated, combining ripeness and restraint. Rich and densely concentrated on palate, ripe black berry fruits and dark plums are expressed with vitality. There is a succulence and aromatic lift, but well-tempered by fine-grained tannins and layers of earth and savoury nuance. A modern expression to be sure, but with more than meets the eye and palate. A wine for 8-10 years cellaring.  18.5+/20  Jun 2012  RRP $36.50
