Bodegas Bilbainas ‘Vina Zaco’ Rioja Tempranillo 2011

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 06-Apr-2015
100% Tempranillo from Rioja Alta, given a cold soak and cool-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 2 weeks and aged 8-12 months in 50% French and 50% American oak. Full, dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour. The nose is tightly bound and elegantly presented, initially shy, but unfolding to reveal well-concentrated aromas of ripe dark red and black berry fruits complexed by dusty and earthy, minerally notes and lifted, cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, a densely concentrated core of ripe black and red fruits is supported by good tannin structure and grip. Complex dusty, earthy mineral notes along with subtle nuances of funky game emerge to provide interest and detail. The mouthfeel has energy with the concentration, and is lifted by subtle oak sweetness that carries to a lingering finish with savoury game nuances. This is a tightly bound Rioja that grows to show black and red fruit flavours with complex earthy and dusty notes and plenty of structure. Match with roasted red meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. 17.5-/20 Apr 2015 RRP $26.99
