Bodegas Bilbainas ‘Vina Pomal’ Rioja Crianza 2011

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 19-Oct-2014
Full, dark, deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an elegantly rich nose of ripe dark red berry fruits and plums infused with oak vanilla along with nuances of dried herbs, earth and cedar. Medium-full bodied, soft, fleshy, dark red berry and plum flavours are entwined with oak and complexed by earth, leather, cedar and vanilla. The fruit is encased by significant extraction and structure, providing a dry mouthfeel. Some sweet and sour acidity enlivens the fruit and flow and the wine carries through to a light, dry finish. This is a full, fleshy, ripe fruited Rioja with considerable extraction and dry structure. Match with casseroles and slow cooked red meats over the next 4+ years. 100% Tempranillo from the ‘Vina Pomal’ estate, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 15% new American oak barrels. 17.0+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $25.99
