Bodega Matsu ‘El Recio’ Toro 2012

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 17-May-2015
Dark, deep ruby-red colour with black-red hues and lighter garnet on edge. The nose is softly concentrated with aromas of ripe, dark red plums and red berry fruits harmoniously melded with liquorice, spices and oak cedar, revealing raspberry jam elements with aeration. Medium-full bodied, sweet and juicy fruit flavours of ripe dark plums and raspberries form a plush and fleshy palate. The fruit is encased by fine-grained tannin extraction, providing balancing dry textures for the fruit. The mouthfeel is well-structured and a little grippy, but in good proportion. Layers of ripe raspberry and jammy warmth unfold and the wine carries to a grainy textured, soft and sweet finish. This is a fleshy, ripe Toro red with plum and jammy flavours encased in a grainy structure. Match with slow-cooked game meat and casseroles over the next 4+ years. 100% Tempranillo from 90-100 y.o. vines fermented to 14.5%, the wine aged 14 months in French oak barrels. 17.5-/20 May 2015 RRP $39.99
