Bodega Matsu ‘El Picaro’ Toro 2013

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 10-Mar-2015
Full, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an elegant nose with finely penetrating aromas of dark red berry fruit infused with herbal elements, unfolding violet florals and cherry liqueur notes with aeration. Medium-bodied, deeply packed and sweet, juicy flavours of blackberries and ripe raspberries are framed by plenty of tannin structure and grip. The palate is up-front with a fulsome mouthfeel from the extraction. The fruit is complexed by reductive nuances and plush, jammy flavours emerge. The tannins and integrated acidity carry the concentrated flavours to a sustained finish. This is a fulsome, sweet-fruited Tempranillo with good grip and structure. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison over the next 3-4+ years. 100% Tempranillo from 90 y.o. vineyards fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 3 months in French oak. 17.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $24.99
