Bodega Classica ‘Hacienda Lopez de Haro’ Rioja Reserva 2008

Tempranillo from Spain
Review Date : 17-May-2015
Hand-picked Tempranillo and Graciano fruit from the San Vicente de la Sonsierra district fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in French and American oak. Full, dark ruby-red colour with black-red hues, and lighter garnet on rim. This has a finely concentrated bouquet with an amalgam of savoury red berry and plum fruit entwined with layers of dried herbs, undergrowth, spices and leather, complexed by vanillin and oak cedar. The aromatics are harmonious and well-integrated, beginning to show some secondary development. Medium-full bodied, the palate is moderately rich with plush, sweet and savoury dark red berry and plum fruit flavours layered with spices, undergrowth, earth and cedary oak. The sweet fruit is supported by fine-grained tannin structure guides the palate to a lifted, juicy and long-lingering finish. This is a rich, sweet-fruited Rioja with oak lift and finely balanced tannins. Match with slow-cooked game meats over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5/20 May 2015 RRP $34.99
