Block 88 Marlborough Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 20-Sep-2012
‘Block 88' is made from a selection of parcels of wine by Auntsfield Estate exclusively for the Fine Wine Delivery Co. Hand-picked fruit fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in French oak barriques. Moderately deep, full, dark, ruby-red colour with purple hues. The nose is elegant and soft, somewhat reserved, but with concentrated aromas of bark berry and cherry fruits, along with oak spices and herbs lifted with a violetty note. Medium-full bodied, finely expressed flavours of vibrant, dark berry fruits, cherries and plums reveal layers of earthy spices and dark herbs, the fruit framed by fine-grained, firm tannins. There is good freshness and energy from lively acidity, and the fruit is carried by the extract to a dry, grainy finish. This is an attractively dark fruited Pinot Noir with floral and herb undertones and a firm palate. This will be a match with most pork, veal and lamb dishes over the next 4-5 years. 17.5-/20 Sep 2012 RRP $23.99
