Blanket Hills ‘Snap Bone’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Oct-2012
Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a very powerful, dense and firmly concentrated nose with bold black berry and plum fruits, black spices and pepper with some savoury game notes and minerally graphite elements. Full-bodied with concentrated black fruit flavours, this has complexing funky game, black mineral and earthy notes that are supported by firm, dry, fine-grained tannins forming a well-structured and textured palate. The fruit richness and lively acidity result in a robust and energetic wine that reveals layers of spices, pepper and earth. The power and depth are carried through to a concentrated and firm, dry finish with lingering flavours of game, black fruits and minerals. This is a bull-bodied, robust and firm, drying Syrah with ripe black fruits and complex funky, game-like flavours in the style of traditional northern Rhone wines. Serve with hearty red meat dishes and hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. Syrah fruit sourced from gravelly sites, destemmed and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine mostly aged in barrel, with a portion in tank. 3,700 bottles made. 17.5-/20 Oct 2012 RRP $24.95
