Blanket Hills ‘Slow Burn’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Sep-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour with some green hues, pale on rim. The nose is softly fresh and gently full with an amalgam of citrus and white stonefruit aromas intermixed with nuts and butterscotch MLF. A floral note lifts the aromatics. Medium-bodied, light and pure stonefruit and citrus flavours are enhanced by some alcohol drive and warmth. The mouthfeel is soft, with a gentle core that unfolds butterscotch elements. The acidity is discreet, keeping the delicate flavours fresh and bright, carrying them to a very long and sustained finish with stonefruit and butterscotch notes. This is a soft, gentle Chardonnay with subtle stonefruit and butterscotch flavours and a soft texture palate. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 3-4 years. Clone 15 and Mendoza from two sites, one coastal and one inland. A portion was tank fermented and the remainder barrel-fermented, to 13.5% alc., the wine undergoing batonnage and MLF. 17.0/20 Sep 2013 RRP $24.95 Clone 15 and Mendoza from two sites, one coastal and one inland. A portion was tank fermented and the remainder barrel-fermented, undergoing batonnage and MLF. 13.5% alc. Bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, pale on edge. This has a moderately broad and up-front bouquet of butterscotch MLF aromas along with nutty elements overlaying fresh citrus and tropical fruit. Full-bodied and with plenty of mouthfilling presence, fulsome, creamy butterscotch flavours form a rounded core that grows to reveal ripe citrus fruits and yellow stonefruit elements. The flavours are underlined by a fine textural line with a little alcoholic power adding to the drive. This has balanced acidity and the palate has a harmonious mouthfeel that leads to a long and concentrated finish. This is a full-bodied, mouthfilling Chardonnay with plenty of buttery flavours and citrussy fruit. Serve with grilled and roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4 years. 306 dozen made. 17.5-/20 Apr 2013 RRP $21.99
