A Rod McDonald Wines label. Hawke's Bay Chardonnay fruit, a portion warm barrel-fermented, aged on lees in oak with MLF, the rest cool stainless-steel fermented, the resultant wine 13.0% alc. Brilliant, light golden-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is soft, full and bold in expression with an aromatic amalgam of ripe citrus fruit, flinty lees and creamy, nutty MLF. The bouquet becomes voluminous with plenty of sweet, spicy, toasty oak. Medium-full bodied, this has fulsome, broad flavours of ripe grapefruit and sweet, nutty, toasty oak that open out and fill the mouth. A fine textural line and lively acidity drive the palate, adding to the succulence of the fruit, and lead to a sustained finish featuring oak toast and brisk, refreshing acidity. This is a full-flavoured, but lively and racy Chardonnay with ripe citrussy fruit and plenty of toasty oak. Serve with roast pork and creamy sauce poultry or veal over the next 3-4 years. 300 dozen made. 17.5/20 Sep 2012 RRP $24.95
