Blackenbrook Family Reserve Pinot Noir 2019, Nelson

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 01-Oct-2021
Moderately full, deep purple with a ruby-red hue, lighter on edge. The nose is gently full, with alluring aromas of black cherries, cassis entwined with black earth, liquorice, herbs and black pepper. Medium-full bodied, concentrated aromas of black cherries, cassis enriched by earth, thyme, and black pepper linger to a lengthy finish. The mouthfeel is dense, shows the concentrated fruit; savoury elements unfold. Integrated acidity freshens a silky yet firm, fine-grained structure. This is an intense Pinot Noir with black fruit, lacy acidity and a firm, silky tannin structure. Match with venison and lamb over the next 5-8 years. Fruit was from 18-year-old vines on old home block, with 9 different clones. Handpicked, cold maceration for 2 weeks, fermented to 13.5% alc, aged in French barrels for 12 months, 30% new oak. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Oct 2021 RRP $45
