Black Tears by Tapiz Malbec 2017, Argentina

Malbec from Argentina
Review Date : 30-May-2022
Full, impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour, youthful in appearance. The nose is elegantly proportioned with concentrated aromas of blackberries, plum jam and fig, lifted by violet, dark herb and cedar elements. Full-bodied, finely-concentrated aromas of blackberries, fig, spiced plums and liquorice are entwined with fragrant and aromatic cedary oak layers. The wine flows with good energy and tension, with lacy acidity lending freshness and fine-grained, powdery tannins underline the fruit, contributing to refined structure and mouthfeel. The cedary details lead to a very long, new oak flavoured finish. This is an elegant, refined, concentrated Malbec with spice and oak layers. Match with venison and roasted lamb shoulder over the next 6-8+ years. 100% Malbec from a single vineyard in San Pablo, Uco Valley, average vine age 20-year-old, fermented to 14.5% alc, aged 24 months in new French oak barrels. 1,200 cases produced. 19/20 pts (95 pts) May 2022 RRP $80
