Black Quail Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 26-Feb-2013
Clones 10/5, 115, 5, 6, 667 and 114, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged approx. 10 months in 35% new French oak barrels. Moderately deep, dark ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues. The bouquet is beautifully refined and ethereally fragrant with delicate aromas of dark red berry fruits, red florals and a subtle savoury fennel and thyme herb underlay. Medium-bodied, this is elegantly proportioned with subtly luscious red berry fruits, just showing a hint of secondary dried herb development along with lifted fresh floral elements. The purity and delicacy of the fruit is a feature. Very fine-grained and supple tannins and lacy acidity are in support, providing good linear drive that leads to a refined, dry, lingering finish with bright acidity. This is an elegant and refined Pinot Noir with beautiful florals and delicate red fruits. Match with tuna, salmon and poultry over the next 4-6 years. 18.5/20 Feb 2013 RRP $39.00
