Black Peak Wanaka Central Otago Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 23-Oct-2016
Full, even, purple-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter edged, youthful in appearance. The nose is softly full and voluminous with fragrant aromas of black and dark-red cherry fruit harmoniously integrated with piquant herbal notes, red liquorice, unfolding red and violet florals. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly concentrated with a core of fragrant dark-red and black cherry fruit entwined with dark herbs and liquorice notes, along with dark–red floral elements. The extraction and structure is fine-grained and the mouthfeel features fresh, lacy acidity, the wine flowing with good energy and vitality. The fruit is underlined by some alcoholic power, which carries a thread of thyme herbs to a fine-featured, tight, lingering finish of dark cherries, red liquorice and red florals. This is an elegant and fragrant dark cherry fruited Pinot Noir with a herbal layer, fine extract and freshness. Serve with duck and pork over the next 5 years. A mix of Abel, 115 and clone 5 fruit from a single vineyard on the Queensberry Hills, fermented with foot-stomping in the fermenter to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 14% new French oak. 169 cases made. 18.0-/20 Oct 2016 RRP $42.00
