Black Estate Wild Life Winery Block 2020, North Canterbury

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 30-Apr-2021
Deep, dark purple with a ruby core, hazy, subtle lighter on the rim. The nose is soft, fragrant and complex; nuances of red florals, sweet herbs, vine leaves interweave blackberries, mulberries, cherries, along with savoury earth and dusty spice. Medium-full bodied, blackberries, mulberries, cherries have a sweet and vibrant core, delicate pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg followed; roses, hibiscus, basil unfolded. Powdery mouthfeel persists with savoury, earth elements to a sustained finish. A harmonious, complex range of flavour, youthful yet with depth and dimension. Lively acidity has a calmness, integrated and lifting. This is an unconventional Pinot Noir in its beautiful natural form, without makeup, just natural beauty. Match with pork rillette and smoked duck breast over the next 3-5 years. Organic & biodynamic Pinot Noir from north-facing Winery Block, Netherwood Vineyard. Handpicked, fermented in an open-top vat with vineyard yeast to 12% alc, and aged in Amphora. No added sulphur. Unfined and unfiltered. BioGro organic certified, vegan friendly. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) Apr 2021 RRP $40
