Black Estate Waipara Valley Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 03-Jun-2014
Full, even, bright straw-yellow colour with light golden hues. This has a softly full and ripe fruited nose with an aromatic amalgam of yellow florals, citrus fruits and honeysuckle, along with nuances of wet-stones, mineral and flint. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, yellow florals, minerals honey and lime flavours show with good presence and soft vinosity. The flavours are layered with interest and interwoven detail. The fruit density is enlivened by crisp, ripe, mouthwatering acidity which provides good linearity to the refined phenolics. The palate carries the flavours to a long, sustained, soft-textured dry finish featuring stonefruits and mineral notes. This is a dry Riesling with a complex array of stonefruit, honey and minerally flavours. Serve as an aperitif and with tapas or dim sum over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from 2 ha from the ‘Damsteep’ vineyard, cool-fermented to 12.0% alc. and 2.6 g/L RS, TA 5.9 g/L and pH 3.00. 810 cases made. 18.5-/20 Jun 2014 RRP $24.00
