Full, dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red with youthful purple hues on edge. The bouquet is full and firmly packed with aromas of black cherries and dark red berry fruits, unfolding raspberry and liquorice note, along with complexing mineral, earth and undergrowth nuances. Medium-full bodied, densely concentrated and rich, ripe flavours of dark berry fruits, liquorice, spices and minerals feature on a full, rounded and solid palate. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded with excellent presence, ripe background acidity and supple tannins that grow in significance. Layers of savoury spices, earth and herbs emerge and are carried with the extract to a long, sustained finish. This is a fulsome and densely concentrated, black-fruited Pinot Noir with complex savoury layers and plenty of structure. Serve with slow-cooked red meats and coq au vin over the next 7-8+ years. Fruit from the ‘Estate’ vineyard, 87% destemmed and 10% foot-crushed, the wine fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine spending 35-54 days on skins and aged 16 months in 3% new French 225 L barrels. 19.0-/20 Dec 2013 RRP $42.00
