Black Estate Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Jul-2014
Bright stra-yellow colour with pale green-gold hues, lighter on rim. The nose is soft and densely packed with ripe, but fresh yellow stonefruit aromas along with mealy, nutty complexing layers with lifted citrus fruitsm oak and subtle flinty lees detail. The nose has a completeness and excellent presence. Fullish-bodied, well-concentrated, tight and densely packed flavours of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits form a solid core. The mouthfeel is rich and weighty with a softly driven line, and restrained acid liveliness. Layers of tropical fruits add to the richness and unfold in waves of nutty, flinty detail carrying to a long, sustained finish with an underlying thread of minerals. This is a rich, softly concentrated and dense Chardonnay packed with interwoven waves of stonefruits and nuts. Match with pork, rabbit and veal over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Black Estate’ vineyard, WBP, and barrel fermented by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 15% new 228 L and 500 L oak casks on lees, with full MLF. 18.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $38.00
