Black Estate Omihi Waipara Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-Apr-2012
Estate grown Pinot Noir from 19 y.o. vines undergoing organic conversion, hand-picked with 8% whole bunch, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 18% new 228 L French oak barrels. Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues on rim. The bouquet is full of ripe dark plum, black cherry and dark raspberry aromas, upfront and bold, with nuances of liquorice and spicy oak emerging. Medium-full bodied, this is still tightly bound, but rich and lush black plum and raspberry fruit flavours are evident and enlivened by balanced acidity. Very fine-grained, chalky tannins build to feature and provide good structure and mouthfeel. The finish is textural and dry, with nuances of plums and liquorice showing. This ripe and plummy Pinot Noir has an understated, but serious structure to keep 5-7 years. Serve with Mediterranean pork dishes. 18.0/20 Apr 2012 RRP $41.00
