Black Estate Omihi Waipara Pinot Noir 2009

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 23-Apr-2011
2009 was an outstanding vintage for Black Estate. Full, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has a tight, intense nose with bold black berry and cherry fruit aromas and dried herb complexities, backed by good oak and a touch of reduction. The palate shows rich, ripe, dark cherry-berry and plum flavours, along with nuances of earth and herbs. Supple tannins form a good frame, but the wine remains very approachable by way of the sweet fruit and fresh acidity. Made from fruit from 15 y.o. vines fully destemmed, given a cold soak and native yeast fermented to 14.3% alc. The wine was aged 15 months in 6% new French oak barrels. Match with roasted red meats over the next 4-6+ years. 18.0+/20 Mar 2011 RRP $42.00
