Black Estate ‘Omihi Series’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 04-Feb-2013
Darkish ruby-red colour, the aromas of bright red fruits are combined with dried herb notes, the nose showing richness with intensity. Very finely presented on palate, succulent red berry fruits are complexed by a layer of dried herb flavours. Sweet on palate, the richness is supported by fine tannin extract and acidity, which allows the fruit to feature. Fragrant, elegant and with subtlety. 18.5/20 Jan 2013 Even ruby-red colour with some garnet hues on rim. This is finely expressed on nose with tightly bound aromas of dark red berry fruit with spicy, clove-like oak notes. Red florals unfold and build with depth. The palate is elegant and refined in presentation, with concentrated flavours of dark red florals and berry fruits, interwoven with complex nuances of oak spices and dried herbs. The mouthfeel is detailed and balanced with fine-grained tannins, the acidity unobtrusive. Layers of spices and savoury herbs along with red florals linger on a sustained finish. This is an elegant and well-concentrated Pinot Noir with detail and layers of red fruits and oak spices that will match Asian duck dishes over the next 5-7+ years. A single vineyard wine, fruit from 10 y.o. vines grown on clay loam overlying limestone and sandstone soils, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 21% new French oak barrels. 18.5/20 Apr 2012 RRP $41.00
