Black Estate ‘Netherwood’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Apr-2016
Light, even, garnet-ruby red colour, paler edged. The nose is full, deep and broad with plenty of presence and concentrated aromas of savoury red berry fruits melded with savoury whole bunch stalk, dried herbs, earth and mushroomy aromas. Some aromatic lift is present and the nose intensifies in density and detail. Medium-bodied, the palate is soft and deeply packed with brooding flavours of savoury red berry fruits melded with earth, game and undergrowth, complexed by subtle waves of whole bunch stalk elements. The flavours form a rounded and concentrated core that is harmoniously integrated. The fruit is supported by supple tannin structure and grip and underlying acidity that seamlessly carries the complex flavours to a sweet, long, lingering finish of red fruits, dried herbs and mushrooms. This is a full, rounded and concentrated, brooding Pinot Noir with complex red fruited flavours and a supple, seamless palate. Match with casseroles and slow-cooked game meat over the next 6+ years. MS Pinot Noir, ungrafted, from vines planted 1986, hand-picked and indigenous yeast fermented with 100% whole clusters to 12.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned French oak casks. 289 dozen made. 18.5/20 Apr 2016 RRP $65.00
