Black Estate ‘Netherwood’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 22-Apr-2016
Full, bright, lemon-straw yellow colour with slight green hues. The nose is very elegant and fine with tightly bound with a deep and intense core of white stonefruits, nuts and steely minerals, unfolding flinty detail. The aromatics are fresh and poised with energy. Medium-bodied, a rich and complex amalgam of white stonefruits, nutty layers and minerals form a taut and dry core. The textures are very fine and integrated with soft and delicate acidity, balancing the subtle, creamy barrel-ferment. This has excellent tension and poise, the acidity driving the wine to a long, firmly bound, dry finish of stonefruits and nuts. This is a fresh and tout Chardonnay with a subtle, complex amalgam of stonefruit and flint with a creamy underlay and poised mouthfeel. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 5+ years. MS Chardonnay, probably Mendoza clone, from 0.8 ha in the ‘Netherwood’ vineyard, vines planted 1986, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in a seasoned 500 L French oak puncheon to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months on lees with full MLF. 49 cases made. 18.5+/20 Apr 2016 RRP $65.00
