Black Estate ‘Netherwood’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Jul-2014
Full straw-yellow colour with light golden hues, paler on rim. The nose is softly concentrated with a growing voloume of white and yellow stonefruits, white florals, showing with a fine, cutting and refreshing steely, mineral and nutty complexity. Medium-full bodied, vibrantly poised fruit flavours of white florals and stonefruits are entwined with nutty and mineral layers. The acidity is piquant and along with the fruit extraction forms a palate line with vitality and fine textured grip. An underlying barrel-ferment creaminess provides beautiful balance, and delicate butterscotch MLF, mealy and nutty nuances lead to a very long, lingering finish. This is a beautifully poised Chardonnay with white stonefruit and complex nutty, minerally flavours, and vitality and grip. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 5-6 years. Hand-picked mass selection Mendoza clone fruit from the ‘Netherwood’ vineyard, WBP, and barrel-fermented with yeast propagated from a vineyard starter to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in seasoned 228 L and 500 L French oak casks on lees, with full MLF. 53 cases made. 19.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $42.00
