Even ruby-red colour with garnet hues, lighter on the rim. This has a full, voluminous nose with gently concentrated, complex interwoven aromas of savoury red berry fruits, savoury earth, undergrowth and dried herbs. The aromatics are seamlessly layered and build in depth and density with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the flavours of soft red berry fruits, red florals, spice, and savoury earth and dried herbs are gentle and restrained in expression. The palate is smooth and harmonious, with a good core of depth and density. The wine grows in sweetness and richness, revealing layers of savoury detail. The mouthfeel features soft, fine-grained tannins and soft, integrated, ripe acidity, and builds in depth and density as the wine flows to a weighty, lingering finish. This is a harmonious and integrated, complex-flavoured Pinot Noir with richness and weight. Match with mushroom-influenced risotto, pasta and casserole dishes over the next 6 years. Fruit from predominantly ungrafted clone 10/5 vines, planted in 1994, hand-picked and 10% foot-crushed, and vineyard derived yeast fermented with approx. 61% whole berries and 9% whole clusters to 13.0% alc., the wine on skins 28-42 days and aged 12 months in seasoned French oak barriques.
