Black Estate ‘Home’ Waipara Valley Chenin Blanc 2014

Chenin Blanc from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 26-Mar-2015
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with some depth, lighter edged. The nose is fresh and finely penetrating with aromas of exotic white florals, white sonefruits and honey, with restrained apricot and marmalade botrytis, alongside complexing nutty and oxidative nuances. Medium-sweet to taste and medium-bodied, the palate is smooth, rounded and near-unctuous, with gentle flavours of exotic florals and tropical fruits, honey and subtle marmalade notes. The wine is seamless in flow, and guided by a refined thread of underlying acidity. This has a deep and soft core, and plenty of palate presence, and the palate carries to a positive, weighty finish with nutty and oxidative notes. This is a soft, seamless, near unctuous, medium-sweet Chenin Blanc with subtle exotic floral and complexing nutty flavours. Serve as an aperitif, with fruit and light baked desserts over the next 4-5 years. A ‘moelleux’ style. First crop from vines from the ‘Home’ vineyard, hand-picked with 80% noble botrytis infection, WBP and fermented over 7 months with vineyard derived yeast in a seasoned 500 L cask to 13.0% alc. and 47 g/L RS, TA 4.5 g/L and pH 3.75. 103 dozen made. (375 ml) 17.5+/20 Mar 2015 RRP $28.00
