Black Estate ‘Home’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2015

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Apr-2016
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight green-gold hues, pale on the rim. This has a full, gentle and ethereal, fragrant nose of citrus fruits, white and yellow stonefruits and nuances of orange blossom, unfolding creamy barrel-ferment notes with subtle flint and mineral detail. The aromatics are refined with a subtle and delicate array of interest. Medium-full bodied, the pakate is fresh and bright with juicy and vibrant flavours of white and yellow stonefruits with citrus notes and subtle nutty interest. Fresh acidity lends liveliness and poise and the wines flows with good tension along a fine phenolic-textured line. Some barrel-ferment creaminess lends smoothness and richness and the citrus and nutty flavours carry to a light and elegantly concentrated, lingering finish of stonefruits and nuts. This is an elegant, refreshingly bright Chardonnay with fragrant stonefruit and citrus fruit with nutty oak detail. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4+ years. Fruit from ungrafted Mendoza clone vines from 3.8 ha of the ‘Home’ vineyard, vines planted in 1994, hand-picked, WBP, and indigenous yeast fermented in 228 L, 500 L and 600 L French oak casks to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 15% new oak on lees with full MLF. 505 dozen made. 18.0+/20 Apr 2016 RRP $42.00
