Black Estate ‘Home’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 26-Mar-2015
Brilliant straw-yelow colour with lemon-gold hues. The nose is voluminous with moderately intense and concentrated aromas of white and yellow stonefruits entwined with complexing layers of flinty lees and reduction along with subtle, nutty oak notes. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, elegantly presented and restrained flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, flint and chalky minerals are melded with nutty oak nuances. This is slender in proportion with a fine textured line and a refreshing, lively mouthfeel enhanced by discreet acidity. The flavours flow with good tension and energy to an elegant, lingering finish. This is an elegant, refreshing Chardonnay with stonefruit flavours and subtle, complexing, flinty detail. It will gain in richness and interest over the next 4+ years. Serve with most white meat dishes. Hand-picked Mendoza clone Chardonnay from un-grafted 20 y.o. vines from the ‘Home’ vineyard, WBP and barrel-fermented by vineyard derived yeast to 13.0% alc. and 3.7 g/L RS, the wine aged 8 months on lees in 9% new oak, with full MLF. 733 dozen made. 18.0/20 Mar 2015 RRP $38.00
