Black Estate ‘Damsteep’ Waipara Valley Riesling 2015

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Apr-2016
Bright, even yellow colour with light golden hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is soft and fresh with aromas of limes, lemons and exotic yellow florals that build, forming a taut core. Nuances of rich, savoury tangerine fruit, flint and minerals unfold to provide detail and interest. Dry to taste, the fruit flavours of bright and exotic citrus fruit are entwined with honeysuckle notes and florals. The fruit is rich, mouthfilling and juicy and enlivened by fresh, crisp acidity. The palate possesses noticeable phenolic textures and grip which lend a degree of dryness to balance the fruit sweetness and provide structure. The wine flows with linearity and vitality to a long and sustained finish with dry textures and exotic fruit notes. This is a rich and exotic fruited dry Riesling with balancing phenolic structure and lively acidity. Match with Chinse fare over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit from 2.2 ha of the ‘Damsteep’ vineyard, WBP with 15% of the fruit foot-crushed, and indigenous yeast fermented in stainless-steel with 5% in old puncheons to 12.0% alc. and 6.24 g/L RS, TA 6.7 g/L and pH 3.03, with maturation on lees. 534 cases made. 18.5-/20 Apr 2016 RRP $28.00
