Black Estate ‘Damsteep’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 18-Apr-2016
Even ruby-red colour with light purple hues, youthful in appearance. The nose is fresh with vibrantly bright aromas of dark raspberry and dark cherry fruit with lifted spice and liquorice notes and black herbal detail, unfolding black and violet florals. This has aromatic depth and concentration. Medium-bodied, the palate features aromatic and vibrant, intense flavours of dark raspberries and cherries, along with violet florals, and subtle liquorice and spice notes. This has an elegant, finely concentrated core with refined tannin extraction and soft acidity providing vitality to the mouthfeel. The wine flows with good linearity and carries the sweet fruit flavours to a long, elegant, dry finish. This is a vibrantly juicy, sweet raspberry and cherry fruited Pinot Noir with aromatics and spices, and a fine-textured structure. Match with pork, lamb, beef and venison over the next 5-6 years. Fruit from 2.5 ha of the ‘Damsteep’ vineyard, vines planted 1999, hand-picked, 96% destemmed, not crushed giving 70% whole berries, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 12 months in seasoned French oak. 552 dozen 750 ml and 100 dozen 375 ml cases made. 18.5+/20 Apr 2016 RRP $42.00
