Black Cottage Syrah 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Feb-2022
Deep, ruby-red with a purple hue, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is full, packed with blackberries, dark plums melded with a marked herbaceousness, mint, lavender and black pepper. Medium-full bodied, blackberries, plums have a ripe core, enriched cocoa, vanilla followed by black pepper, mint and lavender. The fruit has concentration and balanced ripeness, showing youth and herb details. Ripe tannin coated the palate with cocoa powder, leaving a drying finish. This is a plush Syrah with attractive fruit, herbaceous and spice layers. Match with barbeque lamb and beef over the next 3-4 years. Fruit predominantly from Bridge Pa Triangle and Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13% alc, aged with French oak for 10 months. 18+/20 pts (91 pts) Feb 2022 RRP $24
