Black Cottage ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2016

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-Jun-2017
Bright straw-yellow colour with light green hues, lighter edged. The nose is softly full with gentle white stonefruit aromas and subtle citrus fruit notes, and very delicate creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak elements, with nuance of lemon-curd MLF. This is very delicate and subtly nuanced, unfolding some smoke and toast suggestions in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is restrained and elegant in expression, showing white stonefruits and citrus fruit flavours, entwined with nutty oak and a little creaminess. The palate has weight and vinosity, and the flavours flow along a soft, light, fine-textured phenolic-threaded line with fresh acidity providing energy and tension. The wine carries to a clean, refreshing, dry finish. This is an elegant and delicately flavoured Chardonnay with good detail and a refreshing mouthfeel. It will develop more richness. Serve with seafood and poultry over the next 2+ years. Clones 15, 95 and Mendoza from the Wairau Valley, hand-picked, WBP and fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new French oak barrels with 100% MLF. 16.5/20 Jun 2017 RRP $20.00
