Black Cottage ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 31-Aug-2015
Brilliant, light golden yellow colour with slight lemon-green hues on the rim. The nose is softly concentrated with deep aromas of white stonefruit and citrus fruits entwined with flinty lees elements, along with nutty, creamy layers that unfold with toasty oak complexities. This has good intensity and power. Medium-full bodied, this has mouthfilling flavours of stonefruits and citrus fruits melded with flinty lees and nutty, toasty oak. The fruit is encased by grainy phenolic and oak texture, with fresh, lively acidity lending energy and drive. The wine leads to a dry, firm-textured finish with citrus, nutty and flinty notes. This is a complex-flavoured Chardonnay with citrus, flint and toasty oak notes, and a lively, but dry-textured mouthfeel. Serve with roasted and grilled poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. Hand-picked clone 95 and Mendoza fruit from a single site in the Wairau Valley, WBP and barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 25% new French oak barrels with batonnage. 17.5-/20 Sep 2015 RRP $20.00
