Black Cottage ‘Reserve’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 24-Jul-2014
Moderately dark and deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter on edge. This has a fresh, elegantly concentrated a bright nose of dark red cherry fruit with strawberry, violet floral and blackberry pastille fruit nuances adding lift and detail. Medium-bodied, the flavours are restrained and tightly held, the palate showing a softly concentrated heart of spicy cherry fruit, floral elements and blackberry confectionary. The fruit flavours are guided by fine-grained tannins that build discreetly, and the palate enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity. The wine has good linearity and carries to a crisp and brisk acid driven, dry finish. This is an elegant and youthfully tight Pinot Noir with cherry and violetty fruit, and a refreshing mouthfeel. It will become richer over the next 3-4 years. Serve with antipasto, tapas and Mediterranean inspired fare. Pinot Noir fruit from Alexandra and Cromwell, a portion hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine given 10 months French oak aging, with 10% new. 16.5+/20 Jul 2014 RRP $21.99
