Black Cottage Merlot 2019, Hawke’s Bay

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 25-Mar-2022
Deep ruby-red, light on the rim. The nose is gently full, with rich aromas of blackberries, mulberries enriched by a hint of smoke, spice and earth. Medium-full bodied, dark-fruited aromas fill the palate, unfolding spice, smokey barrel, and earthy minerals linger to a dry, long finish. The fruit is vibrant and rich, supported by balanced acidity and good energy. The smooth mouthfeel is structured with fine-grained tannin. This is a smooth drinking Merlot with a black-fruited core and a rich and smooth palate. Match with lamb ribs and grilled meat over the next 3 years. Handpicked fruit from the Crownthorpe Terraces sub-region, fermented to 13% alc, aged 18 months before bottling. 18.5-/20 pts (92 pts) Mar 2022 RRP $20
