Black Barn Vineyards Sangiovese 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Sangiovese from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 01-Dec-2021
Dark ruby-red with a black hue, good transparency, slightly lighter on the rim. The nose is softly full and perfumed, aromas of violet, lavender backed up by sour cherry, strawberry, a hint of spice and savouriness. Medium-bodied, aromas of sour cherry, strawberry interweave lavender and violet, unfolding nutmeg, cumin and a hint of tobacco on the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with a moderate grip of tannin extraction, juicy and lively acidity lengthens and carries spices and tobacco to a savoury closing. This is an attractive, youthful and succulent Sangiovese with aromas of sour cherry, strawberry and medicinal floral detail with a fine tannin grip. Match with roasted duck and tomato base pasta over the next 5+ years. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Dec 2021 RRP $50
