First crop from the Black Barn ‘Home Block’, hand-picked, given 3 hours skin contact and indigenous yeast fermented with 20% in new French oak to 14.2% alc. and 2 g/L RS, the barrel component undergoing batonnage and MLF. Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, lighter on rim. The nose is full, open and voluminous with ethereal and interwoven aromas of exotic florals, white stonefruits and apricots, unfolding musk and herb elements from the core. This is fresh and refined in expression with waves of perfumes. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, flavours of florals, stonefruits, citrus zest and musk are complexed by subtle flinty and nutty nuances. The mouthfeel is very fine-textured, with slippery, lively acidity enhancing the fruit richness. There is alcohol drive and power, but he palate retains elegance, carrying through to a smooth-flowing, lingering finish. This is a smooth, elegant and fine-featured Viognier with slippery freshness and good power. Serve with seafood, poultry, Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 130 dozen made. 18.0/20 Aug 2014 RRP $38.90
