Regarded as the flagship wine for Black Barn and the first 100% Merlot release. Estate fruit, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 100% new French oak. Very dark, saturated black-red colour with purple hues, this has an elegant, but concentrated nose of ripe blackberry, plum and cassis aromas with integrated and balanced oak shine. The fruit is still tightly bound, but the finesse of the aromatics is clear. Full-bodied, this has a refined richness and succulence of ripe dark red berry and plum flavours, luscious, but with real elegance to the obvious concentration and power. The presence and weight of the fruit on palate is a feature and is framed by supple, very fine-grained tannins. Fruit sweetness and clarity marks the long, but restrained finish. This is still to develop, but the beauty of fruit expression promises much for the next 8-10+ years. A classic, supple St Emilion-styled wine.
